10,000 Supporters - Chevron 7 is Locked! (Again)

We did it! (Again!)

To mark the occasion, most of our guest stars have come back for one final celebratory photo, only to discover Master Sergeant Sylvester “Sly” Siler had been doing some studying during his spare time.

It turns out Daniel had mistranslated the Stargate all along. This circular object was actually a Star Tub, or more accurately, a Bath Under the Stars… better known as a Jacuzzi… a Hot Tub Star Travelling Machine, if you like!

Thank you so much to all the returning supporters who’ve been on this LEGO Stargate journey with me since my first attempt, and to the newcomers who’ve only been aware of this project since my second try!

It took longer than last time, but we still achieved the amazing 10,000 supporter milestone in only 187 days!

Look how far my design evolved: this is how it looked on the 9th of September 2021, when I launched my first project…

…And this is how it is now, on the 16th of January 2023, featuring all the latest updates:

All this was thanks to your encouragement, which spurred me to create the best Stargate display set I could make!

By my calculations, we won’t know the results of the review stage my project is in until October. A long time to wait. Let’s hope us Gaters will have some positive news to celebrate then!

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane :)

9,500 Supporters, and an Redesigned MALP

We’re only 500 away from our ultimate goal, so it was high time my crew flew over with the 928-A to greet the SG-1 team during their latest excursion…

Being so close to the finish line, most people would likely just sit back, and ride it out… but not me. You see, 2,500 supporters ago, I proposed an alternative design for the MALP.

At that time, I thought a simple solution would suffice… but I’m an over-thinker, and not over-thinking bothered me increasingly. I kept looking at that altered MALP, thinking “I know I can do better than that”.

So I donned my over-thinking cap, started over-thinking again, and came up with a design, which I’m much happier with.

If you look at the show’s MALP, the platform protrudes from the back, as this one now does. It’s also lower, making it easier for a minifig to step onto.

I even ended up with space for a printed tile to represent controls someone would undoubtadly need when riding the MALP, because even though I don’t think we’ve ever seen that part of this vehicle in the series, they’ve got to be there, right?

Let me know what you think in the comments, and let’s find those last few supporters so we can enter the review stage once again!

9,000 Supporters - Hallowed are the Ori

To celebrate reaching 9,000 supporters (once more), I thought it was high time I brought another antagonist to my project.

After all, we already have the Goa’uld thanks to the Jaffa warriors by the gate, and a seemingly unstoppable Replicator is now hiding on the underside of the ramp, but the show dealt with one more major antagonist: the Ori.

These were the formidable bad guys for seasons 9 and 10, and since I already include Cameron Mitchell as a possible display character, why not the enemy he fought while in command of SG-1?

So here is my version of a Prior, complete with staff and a copy of the Book of Origin.
But where to put him?

As you know, because of the small size of my proposal, I believe I have a limit to the number of minifigures I can include. This is why I made Jack and Cameron, and Daniel and Jonas interchangeable.

So how can I include a Prior, one of the Ori’s faithful who spread their gods’ true power throughout the galaxy, and were imbued with supernatural abilities?

By removing one of the Jaffa.

It’s a bit of a sacrifice but this display set finally has all of the series’ major antagonists. And that’s got to be a big plus.

Only a 1,000 more supporters to find, and guess what? I’ve got a final update to reveal once we get 500 more!

See you then!

Indiana Jones and the 8,500 Stargate Supporters (Photo)

Go on, admit it: this would’ve been one heck of a crossover!

"Indiana Jones and the Secrets of the Chappa’ai"… got a nice ring to it, don’t you think? ;)

With my newly unveiled off-world platform, I’m enjoying taking more outdoor photography (freezing weather notwithstanding).

Can you believe the last time an 'Update' was used just to post a celebratory photo with no improvement or addition whatsoever was 2,000 supporters ago? It's been a busy climb!

My project only needs to find 1,500 more supporters, and as an incentive, we’re only 500 away from the next update.

See you then!

8,333 Supporters - Chevron 6 Encoded

When we got to 6,666 supporters, I revealed an optional DHD. My original submission also had one, but this version was greatly improved, and more in line with those found in the TV show.

Now a cool DHD needs a cool off-world gate platform. The one from my previous project was done in haste, and it showed: for one thing, the stairs are supposed to protrude outwards, not be recessed within the structure.

So I did some work on the design and a lot of experimentation, and came up with a model which I think looks pretty cool, and is sturdy enough to take out for outdoor photography.

As with the DHD, this is not technically part of my project, but is there as an option should LEGO choose my concept and decide to make something bigger than my original plan.

Let me know what you think of my new and improved off-world platform in the comments.

This may be the last pre-planned update, but guess what? I’ve actually been working on something else - something many have requested. I will reveal all, once we get to 9,000.

If you haven’t already supported my project, do consider being one of the many fans of the show who dream of an official LEGO Stargate set, by clicking on that big button, too right of this very page!

8,000 Supporters, and a New Antagonist

Our SG-1 team have encountered many dangerous situations in the last couple of celebratory photos, but nothing as lethal as the Replicators.

They first appeared in the season 3 finale, Nemesis, and proved to be one of the most dangerous enemies across the entire franchise… and it’s scandalous they aren’t represented in this proposal.

So let’s remedy this shameful omission.

They’re actually a relatively simple build, made up of common parts, except for the one that’s at the back of the body. That 1x1 plate with two handles on either side first appeared in 2021, so it’s a pretty new piece (many thanks, once again, to Oliver Götz, for informing me to that part’s existence).

I then faced two challenges: how many to build, and where to place them on the display.

How many was too many - that’s the problem with the Replicators… they replicate!

But where to display was actually a bit tricky to decide. Then I thought, since they act very spider-like, why not on the underside of the ramp?

And I decided it would be a lot cleaner and more elegant to simply have one there. So there you have it, a new important addition to a set designed to celebrate the Stargate SG-1 series.

Let me know what you think in the comments, and our next update will actually be coming pretty shortly at 8,333 (unless the parts I ordered don’t arrive on time!) See you then…

7,500 Supporters, and a Structural Update

The Stargate can take you anywhere… so why not to the Upside Down? I hope you enjoy this latest celebratory photo, but there’s more to this milestone than a life or death excursion.

For over a year now, since the start of my first Stargate project in fact, I’ve used an extremely rare specialised piece to make sure the gate remains circular at all times. But there have always been two issues with this:

1. That part was only used to represent Puppycorn’s ears - a character from the Unikitty cartoon. It has never been seen in any other set, and has since been discontinued.

And

2. Although it does a remarkable job of holding the gate together, it’s actually quite sensitive to movement, which has always concerned me about the design’s stability over time.

Well, after a lot of experimentation, I came up with a radical solution… radical because it means I no longer need those puppycorn ears. That’s right: I’ve redesigned my Stargate so it’s completely puppycorn-free.

I’ve often wondered how likely it would be for LEGO to revive this pretty rare piece, and if it was essential to my design, maybe that was a reason for it being rejected the first time around.

Now, we have a gate that pretty much looks exactly the same as before, but is only made up of existing, readily available parts, and as a bonus, is now massively more rigid and sturdier (see video demonstration below).

What better way to celebrate reaching three quarters of the way (a second time) than with a structurally sound Stargate?

Let’s find those remaining 2,500 supporters, and I’ll see you when we get to 8,000 ! (when I’ll have another surprise in store for you)

7,000 Supporters, and a Small Update

Fans of Stargate Atlantis would know that planet M1M-316 was populated by dinosaur-like creatures… but why should the Pegasus galaxy have all the fun?! With that in mind, enjoy this celebratory photo!

Potential MALP Update

There is however, one more thing, since I can never leave my MOCs alone!

As well as a grappling claw and a radar dish, the actual MALP from the show has a space at the back for one member of the team to ride on… but my version doesn’t.

So I thought I’d make a small change to my design to accommodate a minifig.

What do you think? Better than the original, or stick to what I already have?

Let me know in the comments and let’s find those remaining 3,000 fans!

6,666 Supporters - Chevron 5 Encoded

Two thirds of the way there, and it’s time to venture beyond the confines of this parred down SGC.

Last time I submitted my Stargate design, I also offered as an option, an off-world base and DHD, but those were hastily constructed as I was in a rush to take some outdoor photography.
The DHD itself was a rather basic interpretation of the actual prop. Normally, there are two thin curved prong-like extensions pointing towards the gate, one on either side of the DHD. But what did I do? I totally ignored that, and pretended they didn’t exist.

Now I might’ve got away with it for a little over a year, and well into my second run, but it was time I rectified that glaring omission.

You’ll find there are many DHD MOCs out there, but they all use plates or bricks to represent those curved extensions. I wasn’t happy with such a solution, as it made them look way too bulky. I wanted to come up with something quite different.

While I was at it, I also altered the look of the DHD’s main control panel. If you look closely, the device has a large flat round surface, upon which the dialing glyphs are placed in a dome-like shape.

Thanks to Oliver Götz, who reminded me of an extremely rare 4x4 piece, and with a standard 3x3 dish, I was able to replicate that look very effectively.
Building at minifig scale is more often than not a compromise, and all things considered, I think my new DHD turned out pretty well.

But as Steve Jobs used to say, there’s one more thing.

I can’t just use a plain old dome piece for the top of the DHD, and I was able to convince a very kind and talented custom printing company to print the glyphs on that part (printing on curved shapes is actually pretty difficult), and I think they did an absolutely fabulous job.
I believe it’s high time for my model to go back outside, don’t you?

Let me know what you think in the comments, and onwards to the rest of the journey. We still have a ways to go, so please add your support if you haven’t already, help by spreading the word, and I’ll see you on the other side!

Wormhole X-Treme! was such a fun episode, and a rare occasion when a show gets to poke fun at itself. Stargate wasn’t afraid of doing that, and in fact did it more than once.

And none other than Martin Lloyd featured in them, so I thought it would be great to recreate him as a minifig.

I took the opportunity to also bring in General Landry, as well as Agent Malcolm Barrett. Three great guest stars for one celebratory photo. How cool is that?

Well, not as cool as the next milestone update. Not long to wait to get to it as well: only 166 votes to reach 6,666.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support. Please keep spreading the word and I’ll see you on the other side!
