Metallica's Lady Justice (Aka: Doris)

2023 marks the 35th anniversary of the album …And Justice for All

In honor of this event I present: Lady Justice.
Or, as she is otherwise known to Metallica fans the world over: Doris.

Doris graced the cover of Metallica's 4th studio album, …And Justice for All, and went on to become their most well known stage prop.

Being a physical builder, I use whatever is on hand until I determine what I need. This sometimes makes for very colorful prototypes, and Doris was no exception. I’ve had predominantly orange prototype versions of Doris on my desk since October of 2022. At times, the prototypes got quite complicated with too much going on.

After months of tinkering and adjusting pieces, I one day took everything apart and started over, this time opting for simplicity and a smaller desktop size.

153 pieces later, I landed on what you see here, a minimalist version of Doris.

I call her: Desktop Doris.

I had wanted to make everything about her white, but the sword that best fit her is not available in white. I decided to take artistic license to conquer that limitation and made her accessories: sword, blindfold, and scale all dark gray. The light gray didn’t provide enough contrast, and I found the dark gray to provide a more striking effect.

Why would this make a good set? Here are two reasons, LEGO and Lars Ulrich. Arguably Denmark's two most famous exports. The better question might be: How has this not happened yet?

It is a small build not requiring much space, and it would be a fun way for Metallica fans to try LEGO, and have something for their collection to show for their efforts.

153 pieces (tracked by a brick-by-brick video I made taking pictures of every piece as I snapped them into place)

Dimensions: 8cm long x (almost) 12.5cm tall x (almost) 5cm deep

My hope is that when Metallica fans look at it, the response is a smile, say "I WANT ONE!" and be inspired to vote.

If you would like to one day build this, please take a minute (that’s all it takes!) to set up a LEGO IDEAS account and click the SUPPORT button. 10,000 votes are needed for it to move-on to be reviewed by LEGO for consideration as a potential buy/buildable set.

Sharing to your favorite social media platform will help others to see and support it too.

Thank you for your support!
