Plum Blossoms
Plum blossoms in Japanese culture represent hope, renewal and vitality, being the first to flower in spring (before the more famous cherry blossoms).
Plum blossoms come in various shades from white, pink and red, as well as yellow. I have chosen to use red, the royal colour that is represented in Japan’s flag and a common colour for the torii gates that are found throughout Japan.
The background is based on shoji, the paper sliding doors and windows common in Japanese homes.
