Geisha
In Japan, Geisha are an incredibly skilled group of people who train for years as a Maiko, learning traditional Japanese performing arts including music, song and dance. I chose to build this bust as the Geisha encapsulate the culture and traditions of Japan while also being an instantly recognisable icon.
The model features the oshiroi style of face make-up and their distinguishable hairstyle, which would in fact be a wig once a Geisha has completed their training. The base of the bust shows the top part of a red kimono with a white collar. The wig is adorned with kanzashi (hair accessories) including fabrics, pins and decorative flowers.
Building this was quite challenging as it involved pieces attached at all different angles that all had to line up while still looking correct and being sturdy enough to support its own weight. The core structure contains technic elements and ball joints to hold everything together properly.
Thank you for looking!
