Toilets in History: Everybody Has to Go...

Have you ever wondered how we got to the luxury of the modern toilet? You haven't? Even more reason to visit the local exhibition of Toilets In History!
We offer a variety of toilet related display items and faithful recreations of different toilets. Highlights of the exhibit include:
  • A Roman communal latrine. We also have a sponge stick on display that was used in place of toilet paper - shared by the visitors of the latrine.
  • A recreation of a medieval Garderobe.
  • A luxurious chamber pot from Victorian times, including the toilet chair.
  • A modern toilet with the important S-bend pipe, patented in 1775 as groundwork for modern plumbing.
At the moment we offer the special pop up exhibition: Curious Toilet Lids, from Mahogany to solid gold.
We're also proud to present the tapestry "Lady On The Close" as a temporary item on loan.

Please note that the display times are no longer in use. Usable toilets can be found on the lower levels of the museum. Elevators available. Leashed pets welcome.
