The lower gravity of the moon makes it an ideal location for legged vehicles, since they do not need the tremendous support required on Earth. Thus, not long after the first permanent settlement was established on the moon, these crawlers were designed for quick and efficient exploration of the surface.

Fitted with a powerful sublight engine, the craft can transport itself between planetary surfaces and orbiting space stations, and is used as a tug for cargo between larger ships. Its powerful claws can crunch nearly anything steel, and are made for crushing and removing asteroid debris. The Astro Crab is also a suitable craft for mining support on larger asteroids. The reinforced carapace of the vehicle makes it ideal for such operations.

The legs of the mech fold underneath, and the claws forward, to streamline its flight during in-atmosphere travel. The sturdy and reliable craft is a favorite of astronauts everywhere.
