Alien Lily Pad

This is an alien lily pad. When the pad first reaches the surface of the water, the pad is small and flat. As the flower grows, the center of the pad fills with air, making it bulge out and lighten in color. The air pocket helps to support the weight of the flower. The stem and tips of the flower petals are barbed, to protect the flower from local wildlife as they come to drink at the lake.

If you look under the surface of the water, you will see 3 fish hiding in the pink and purple lake weed. Each fish has 6 fins it uses to propel itself through the water.
