Do you ever just feel the need to add something to an existing LEGO set to make it even cooler? Now we invite you to use your creative skills by building an add-on to the A-model of any 2018 LEGO Creator 3in1 product. Your add-on can be small or big, as long as it gives the product the ultimate coolness! Here is the chance to activate your LEGO bin and think outside of the box.
One Grand Prize winner will get the full 2018 LEGO Creator 3in1 assortment, selected 2017 LEGO Creator 3in1 sets, a LEGO Creator 3in1 t-shirt as well as a LEGO Creator 3in1 frame created by a LEGO designer and a winner’s certificate.

ENTRY DEADLINE: Submit your entry no later than December 4th, 2018 at 6:00 a.m. EST. If you’re not sure what time zone you’re in, here’s a time zone converter.
How it Works
The contest has 3 phases:
- Submission Phase - Build and submit your entry before December 4th, 2018 at 6:00 a.m. EST. We recommend submitting your entry 2-3 days before the deadline in the event we have to return it to you for changes.
- Judging Phase – Our judges review the entries and choose the winners by December 11th, 2018.
- Winners Announcement – We will share the Grand Prize winner, the two Runners-Ups and the Bonus winner here on LEGO Ideas no later than December 18th, 2018!
How to Enter:
- Build an add-on to the A-model of any 2018 LEGO Creator 3in1 product. You can see the full list of 2018 products under Prizes (Grand Prize winner)
- You don’t need to have a model from the LEGO Creator 3in1 assortment to enter the contest. You are welcome to build an add-on without the model you want to add it to
- Please include a note in your description saying what 2018 LEGO Creator 3in1 product you have added your build to, or would like to add this to
- Submissions may be in either physical bricks or by using a digital building tool such as LEGO Digital Designer. However, since LEGO Creator 3in1 is all about building and rebuilding, the LEGO Creator team encourages you to build your entry with physical bricks. You’re welcome to use image editing tools, such as Photoshop, to enhance your photos/presentation.
- Take up to five photos of your creation and submit them to the contest. Make sure to show off your model from all angles and any particular features or functions of your creation.
- Add a title and a short description.
- Upload your entry to the contest using the blue Submit Your Entry button on this page.
Contest Rules
Acceptable Entry Content
- Your add-on may contain LEGO System elements or LEGO Technic elements (no LEGO DUPLO elements), however the LEGO Creator team encourages you to only use LEGO System elements to match the LEGO Creator 3in1 theme. The LEGO elements must be genuine (not cut, glued, drawn on or otherwise modified).
- Each entry must only include one add-on item, however you may submit multiple entries
- Entries may not include licensed or copyrighted elements, stickers/printed elements and minifigures. This means all entries containing elements from third party Intellectual Properties (IPs), including licensed characters from Marvel and DC Super Heroes, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Ferrari, etc. will not be eligible for the contest. This also includes LEGO IPs such as LEGO Friends, LEGO NEXO Knights, LEGO Elves etc.
- No custom artwork (stickers/prints). Entries may only contain official LEGO-made stickers or printed elements from non-licensed sets.
- You must be the original creator of all creative work you submit (the model, images, photographs, description text, etc.) and you must have the exclusive right to submit your model to this LEGO Ideas Contest. You may not submit a model made by, or on behalf of, someone else.
- Entries must be new creations and not previously posted online or submitted to any other contest.
- Contest entries related to the topics below do not fit our brand values and will not be approved for publication on LEGO Ideas:
- Politics and political symbols, campaigns, or movements
- Religious references including symbols, buildings, or people
- Sex, nudity, drugs, or smoking
- Alcohol in any present-day situation
- Swearing or profanity
- Death, killing, blood, terrorism, horror, or torture
- First-person shooter video games
- Warfare or war vehicles in any modern or present-day situation, or national war memorials
- Large or human-scale weapons or weapon replicas of any kind, including swords, knives, guns, sci-fi or fantasy blasters, etc.
- Racism, bullying, or cruelty to real life animals
Entry Quality Standards
- You may submit digital entries using LEGO Digital Designer, which is available for download via this link free of charge. Any entries made in LEGO Digital Designer should not show the baseplate from build mode. You may also create digital entries using third-party LEGO CAD software.
- You may use photo editing software and add visual effects to photos of your entry. If you use visual effects of any kind, please do ensure that your model is still clearly visible.
- Entries containing photos that are too dark or blurry will be removed from the contest. To ensure easy judging of your entry, we recommend taking several pictures on a neutral background free from background clutter, with your model well framed and shown from different angles.
- Please do not include people or limbs in photos you submit. Photos containing such will be removed.
House Rules
- Entries containing defamatory or degrading elements will not be eligible for the contest.
- Any cheating or harassment of other participants will result in disqualification from the contest.
- Your contest entries and comments on contest entries must follow the complete LEGO Ideas House Rules.
Judging
A panel of judges consisting of members of the LEGO Creator 3in1 team will choose a Grand Prize winner and two Runner-Ups based on:
- Overall coolness and originality: 25%
- Most inspired details: 25%
- Relevance to contest theme: 25%
- Best use of LEGO elements: 25%
One Bonus prize winner will be randomly selected from a Bonus Pool of high-quality contest submissions.
The Fine Print
- You must be at least 13 years old to participate and enter.
- You may submit multiple entries to the contest, but only one entry per person will be considered when winners are selected. This means you cannot win as a Grand Prize winner and as a Runner-Up or Bonus winner with several different entries.
- Winners will be contacted on the email address associated with their LEGO Ideas account after December 11th, 2018. Winners will be announced on LEGO Ideas when all winners have returned the signed Winner’s Certification Documents. A winner who does not return their Winner’s Certification Document within one week (5 days) of receiving it will be disqualified, and a new winner will be selected.
- This contest is not open to residents of Iran, North Korea, Myanmar/Burma, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Syria, any other U.S. sanctioned country and where prohibited or restricted by law.
- By entering the contest, you agree to follow the rules on this Contest Brief page and you agree to the LEGO Ideas Terms of Service.
