Location: The Dead Marshes
"On either side and in front wide fens and mires now lay, stretching away southward and eastward into the dim half-light... Far away, now almost due south, the mountain walls of Mordor loomed, like a black bar of rugged clouds floating above a dangerous fog-bound sea."
“‘There are dead things, dead faces in the water,’ he said with horror. ‘Dead faces!’ Gollum laughed. ‘The Dead Marshes, yes yes: that is their names,’ he cackled. ‘You should not look in when the candles are lit.’”
- The Two Towers
For this challenge I built the location of the Dead Marshes. I kept the colour palette pale and muted, limited to only a handful of colours to represent the eerie, bleak landscape. I juxtaposed this with a dark, foreboding sky.
The Dead Marshes are one of the less iconic locations in the books, but I love them for their atmospheric nature and importance as the final living landscape before the utter desolation that is Mordor.
