Location: Barad-Dûr

Barad-dûr: one of the most iconic buildings and the greatest fortress in whole Middle Earth of its time. 

As its name Black Fortress or Black Tower states, it is held together by dark magic. It was Dark Lord Sauron's stronghold in the northern region of Mordor, serving his dark purposes during the Second and late Third Age. On top of the tower sits a giant, lidless eye that never sleeps, ever watchful. It was said that few could endure its terrible gaze.

With this design I meant to catch the pure essence of the Black Fortress without frills. A huge build, which was created to mirror as many of the details of the original tower as possible. As I like to work on a big scale, this time I started with the outside details and top of the tower with the eye, and built the structure later behind and under it. Built and rendered in studio all the way.

In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
