From the 80s, we’re now moving on to the next chapter of our nostalgic journey, and it's time to take a trip down memory lane and dive into the magic of the 90s! From iconic TV shows to unforgettable movies that shaped an entire generation, the 90s were a powerhouse of creativity and cultural impact. Now, we’re inviting you to channel that nostalgia into an epic LEGO build that celebrates this amazing decade of entertainment!
To truly honor the 90s, we've crafted two exciting challenges that capture the era's diverse and rich movie and TV scenes. After all, the 90s were a vibrant mix of everything – from blockbuster hits to cult classics, action-packed adventures to heartfelt dramas. So, mark your calendars for December 6th, 2024, when we kick off our first challenge- "The Opening Act." Then, prepare for the next exciting sequel on January 7th, 2025- "The Next Chapter". Whether you’re inspired by TV shows or legendary films, we can't wait to see how YOU capture the 90s entertainment spirit with LEGO bricks!
The Opening Act (1000-5000 Pieces)
Ready to take your 90s nostalgia to the next level? For those who want to go big, this challenge allows you to explore the 90s in all their larger-than-life entertainment glory. With up to 5000 pieces at your disposal, you can recreate the grand scale of a famous 90s movie moment or dive deep into the intricate details of a TV show set or iconic film design. With more bricks to work with, it’s your chance to bring a larger vision of the decade’s entertainment to life in a truly memorable way. So, unleash your creativity and show us how bold your 90s build can be!
The Next Chapter (200-1000 Pieces) - Going live on the 7th of January!
In collaboration with Target, this challenge is for builders who want to celebrate nostalgia in a creative and fun way. With a maximum of 1000 pieces, it’s all about capturing the essence of a moment or scene from an iconic 90s movie or TV series. Whether it’s a nod to a beloved 90s character, a tribute to a famous scene, or a recreation of a memorable set or prop, let your creativity shine and show us how mighty your LEGO build can be! Going live on the 7th of January!
Prizes
- The Grand Prize Winner for the Fan Vote will see their build turned into a LEGO set. They'll also receive credit and compensation as described in the Product Ideas guidelines and Terms of Service. This means they will receive:
- 1% of the total net sales of the product
- 10 complimentary copies of their LEGO Ideas set
- Credit and a bio as the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer in the set materials
- The Runner-Up for the Fan Vote will receive the following sets:
- 21351 - Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
- 21350 - Jaws
- 21345 - Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera
How it Works
Our mission is to pick one epic build to hit store shelves. No need to dust off your Brickbuster card—this isn’t a rental. It’s your chance to own the ultimate nostalgia set, straight outta the 90s!
The challenge has the following phases:
Building Phase
- Your build must follow the Product Ideas guidelines with these exceptions:
- Your entry must be between 1,000 and 5,000 pieces.
- Your entry must be inspired by a Movie or a TV show from the 90s.
- Only reference approved intellectual properties (IPs) as disclosed in our IP checking tool. If an IP is not listed in our IP tool, then you may submit the creation, after which our evaluation team will evaluate the suitability of the IP. It may therefore be either approved or denied. We recently added over 250 new IPs. These can be used across LEGO Ideas, and they include some of the biggest hits of the 90s. Check if your favorite IP has been updated in the IP checking tool by visiting our IP checking tool and clicking “Submit Idea”.
- Submit your build by January 6th 2025 at 6:00 AM EST. We recommend submitting 2 days early to allow for potential changes if required. If your build needs edits, you’ll have until January 7th 2025 at 6:00 AM EST to resubmit.
Expert Phase
Experts will review and select up to 5 builds to move to the Fan Vote on February 10th 2025.
Evaluation criteria
Builds are evaluated on:
- Overall coolness and originality: 25%
- Inspired details: 25%
- Relevance to theme: 25%
- Best use of LEGO elements: 25%
Voting Phase
- LEGO Ideas members can vote 1 time for their favorite build between February 10th 2025 and February 21st 2025.
- The votes will decide the Grand Prize Winner and the Runner-Up of the challenge.
Winners Announcement
- The Grand Prize Winner for the Fan Vote will receive credit and compensation as described in the Product Ideas guidelines and Terms of Service. This means they will receive:
- 1% of the total net sales of the product
- 10 complimentary copies of their LEGO Ideas set
- Credit and a bio as the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer in the set materials
- The Runner-Up for the Fan Vote will receive the following sets:

- Results will be posted on LEGO Ideas no later than June 2nd 2025.
- Creators of the selected builds are contacted via the email linked to their LEGO ID.
- Creators of the selected builds must return their legal signed documents within five days to avoid disqualification.
How to Enter
- Build your creation using physical bricks or a digital tool like Bricklink’s Studio or other third-party LEGO CAD software.
- Take a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 photos showing all angles and features.
- You may edit images with tools like Photoshop. Edited photos should be clear, well-lit, with a neutral background, and free from clutter. Avoid including people, animals, or text overlays.
- AI-generated art or copywriting is not allowed.
- 3rd party platforms (like YouTube) are not allowed. You can upload your video directly to our platform when submitting your build.
- Use high-resolution images (at least 1080 x 720 pixels) for clear detail.
- Add a title, short description (use proper capitalization and spelling), and submit via the Submit your build! button.
Rules
- This challenge follows the Product Ideas Guidelines with the exceptions outlined in the “Building Phase” section. Be sure to read the guidelines carefully to ensure your build is eligible and can be approved for the challenge and review.
- You must be the original creator and hold exclusive rights to your build. Do not submit work by others.
- Your build must be either entirely new creations or expired Product Ideas. Product Ideas that are or were active during the intake of this Challenge will not be accepted.
- Any LEGO elements (LEGO System, LEGO DUPLO, LEGO TECHNIC/Construction) are allowed in your build. No modifications are accepted.
- You may include references to any allowed IP. Any reference to multiple IPs are not allowed. - If an IP is not listed in our IP tool, then you may submit the creation, after which our evaluation team will evaluate the suitability of the IP. It may therefore be either approved or denied. Visit the IP checking tool and click “Submit Idea” to check if your favorite IP is allowed. .
- You can use Minifigures from allowed IPs. You can also use generic Minifigures if they’re not related to any other IP.
- Builds and comments must follow LEGO Ideas House Rules.
The Legal Stuff
- Entrants must be 16+ years old.
- You may submit multiple builds, but you can only win 1 time.
- Each Selected Entrant (or their parent/legal guardian if the Selected Entrant is a minor in their country of residence) will be required to sign and return a Declaration of Compliance, which must be received by us within five days of notification, otherwise the Selected Entrant will be disqualified. If a Selected Entrant cannot be contacted, or fails to execute and return the signed documents within the required time period, the Selected Entrant forfeits the prize, and we'll select a new entry as the winner.
- This challenge is offered, organized and run solely by LEGO System A/S on behalf of the LEGO Group. Participants should direct all queries and matters relating to the challenge to LEGO Ideas.
- Active participation by way of submissions of any kind to this challenge is not open to residents of Iran, North Korea, Myanmar/Burma, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Syria, Russia or any other country which is subjected to sanctions and were prohibited or restricted by law, for as long as such sanctions remain in place. Prizes for winners from Ukraine or Belarus may be delayed due to shipping restrictions.
- By entering, you agree to follow this Challenge Brief and LEGO Ideas Terms of Service.
- We reserve the right to substitute a package, partially or as a whole, for one of equal or greater value.
- Each Selected Entrant is responsible for any applicable taxes and fees, if any, associated with package receipt and/or use.
- We assume no responsibility or liability for damages loss or injury resulting from acceptance or use of the package.
- In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Challenge is impaired in any way for any reason (including fraud, virus or other technical problem), we may either: (a) suspend the Challenge to correct the problem and then resume the Challenge; or (b) cancel the Challenge, if the problem cannot be corrected.
- We reserve the right to disqualify any Entrant we find to be tampering with the submission or voting process or the operation of the Challenge, or who is acting in violation of the Challenge Brief or the LEGO Ideas Terms of Service.
