Nature: Tutumaz
The Formosan black bear is like a spirit to the Bunun, one of many indigenous tribes in Taiwan .They call it "Tutumaz", a word that originally means a mighty hero.
These are the characteristics of the Formosan black bear:
a round head, short neck, small eyes, long snout and round ears. It's body is well covered with rough, glossy, black hair.On the chest, there is a distinctive yellowish or white mark shaped like a "V" character or a crescent moon. In this work, Tutumaz is wearing traditional Bunun costume, symbolizing its friendly relationship with the Bunun people; holding a pestle in its hand, a tool for pounding rice, and standing on the green island which is its homeland - Formosa, Taiwan.
