From our small and distant perspective, the Helix Nebula bears a strong resemblance to the eyeball of a living being, like those of us who inhabit planet Earth. It is inevitable to think of the words of the beloved science popularizer Carl Sagan: "The Cosmos is also within us. We’re made of starstuff. We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself."
Perhaps those who can once travel to these fabulous corners of the universe will ultimately make a journey into themselves and into the meaning of our lives.
