Hello, thank you for checking out this project
The National Museum is Brazil's oldest scientific institution as well as a proud symbol of its architectural history, it has stood and housed collections for 200 years, 6 June 1818 to 2 September 2018, tragiclly the world has lost 90% off the items housed here which contain a huge amount of our history
It is an unbearable catastrophe. It is 200 years of this country’s heritage. It is 200 years of memory. It is 200 years of science. It is 200 years of culture, of education.” Luiz Duarte Museum Director
The National Museum held a vast collection with more than 20 million objects, one of the largest collections of natural history and anthropological artifacts in the world, encompassing some of the most important material records regarding natural science and anthropology in Brazil, as well as numerous items that came from other regions of the world and were produced by several cultures and ancient civilizations. Formed along more than two centuries through expeditions, excavations, acquisitions, donations and exchanges, the collection was subdivided into seven main nuclei: geology, paleontology, botany, zoology, biological anthropology, archaeology, and ethnology. The collection was the principal basis for the research conducted by the academic departments of the museum – which are responsible for carrying out activities in all the regions of the Brazilian territory and several places of the world, including the Antarctic continent. The museum held one of the largest scientific libraries of Brazil, with over 470,000 volumes and 2,400 rare works.
The Museum will be rebuilt however it will take a long 20 years, we can not let this building and its collection fade from peoples minds, ever since i heard about this disastor i have been planning and working on a project to hopefully keep this in peoples minds,
here i am today with my project, my aim with this is to keep this Museum in peoples minds, another goal of this is to try and get children intrested in what the Museum had in its collection, i personally cant think of a better way to get the creative children intrested in history and science than with lego, now i wanted to create the entire building however i am limited to a realisitc scope
One big take away i have seen from this disastor is people saying that this is a message for Museums that nothing can last for ever, whilst in some case that may be true it doesnt mean we should forget about it, and with this set we can keep the memory of this building around longer
thank you everyone for taking the time to read this and visiting this project, i hope you like what i have created and i hope it helps to keep this in peoples mind and also provides and intresting looking display piece
