The idea
After the creation of the D&D set, I'm sure many will dream of a set based on Magic: The Gathering, the most famous collectible card game, born in 1993 and played by several million people around the world.
For this project I wanted to take inspiration from one of the most famous and well-known characters: Urza.
Urza is a great wizard and inventor and his lands are the ideal place to bring MTG into the LEGO world.
But that's not all. The project includes numerous references to the iconic cards of the game.
The Project
The main building of the set is Urza's Tower, a white building with a large golden dome, where Urza designs all his inventions.
Outside the building, just under the tree, is the entrance to Urza's Mine.
On the opposite side, a Smokestack expels the smoke produced by Urza's Power Plant.
Next to the long staircase you can see a small pool where a Black Lotus seems to grow.
The tower has a total of 3 floors.
On the ground floor, just under the stairs that lead to the first floor, you can find a bench with potions and in front of it there is Urza's Incubator, used for creating constructs.
On the first floor there is the library, with a large Scroll Rack, and a table on which Urza's Tome is placed.
On the walls there are several blueprints of projects, such as the Mishra's Bubble and a Wurmcoil Engine.
On the top floor there is the laboratory, where Urza designs his machines.
As you can see there are Urza's Blueprints depicting the Weatherlight, and a microscale model of this famous flying ship.
Near the candle you can also see Urza's Chalice.
The energy needed to power the tower comes from underground. The rock base opens up to reveal Urza's Mine and Urza's Power Plant.
The large boiler is directly connected to the incubator and smokestack. A Power Plant Worker takes care of maintenance.
The excavator in the mine instead takes care of extracting the incandescent material.
There is also an Urza's Cave underground, where a Mine Worker is working to extract the precious Powerstone, the power source of the Weatherlight.
The set contains minifigures of all the most popular Planeswalkers:
- Urza
- Karn
- Jace
- Chandra
- Ajani
- Liliana
- Garruk
Karn was definitely one of Urza's most successful creations!
Why make this a set?
A set that pays homage to Magic: The Gathering would definitely be what all fans have been dreaming of for years.
It fits very well with the fantasy themes produced by LEGO, so it would definitely be a nice addition even for those who are not fans.
After all, who wouldn't want to have a wizard inventor's tower to go alongside a classic castle-themed set?
Finally, the minifigures are truly unique, and I'm sure all players would want to have them!
