Some Photos, and the story of the Banana

There have been some questions about the banana, so I'm going to tell you the full story. I've also made some photographs of my model Trabi.

In the GDR, many things were in short supply. When ordering a car - which would most commonly be a Trabi - a 10 year waiting period was not unusual. So owning a car was in any case something special. You were lucky to get one. The same is true for exotic fruit: very few communist countries were growing bananas or oranges, so they couldn't be bought in stores.

After the fall of the wall, the satirical magazine 'Titanic' presented a cover photo titled 'my first banana' showing a girl holding up a partially peeled cucumber. This had made me laugh and cry at the same time. It was so rude. In my Lego model, I wanted the girl to be luckier, to be free to go where she wants to while enjoying any sort of fruit she likes. I believe she's made a good choice.
