LIVE FROM NEW YORK IT'S LEGO SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!
Saturday Night Live has been a comedy and New York staple for the last 50 years and what better way to celebrate that by honoring the iconic stage and some of the fan-favorite sketches and characters that have come with it. And as a bonus, a surprise former cast member is one of the designers!
Designed by @JediBib and @BuildingFriendships, the biggest piece of the set is the Iconic SNL Stage with the music stands, drum kit and a sax as an homage to legendary SNL saxophonist Lenny Pickett who our surprise designer loves with his whole heart. Legends have crossed that stage from actors and musicians to athletes and politicians. It's arguably one of the most recognizable stages on television.
Then comes the sketches. While we plan to continue adding some of our favorites as our campaign goes on, we decided to start with 4 of ours favorites:
Weekend Update: From Norm Macdonald and Jimmy Fallon to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, some of the biggest stars of today have sat at that legendary news desk. While we're leaving it up to the builder to fill those seats, we couldn't have an SNL set without Weekend Update.
Wayne's World: Party Time! Excellent! Not only was this a fan favorite sketch, but Wayne and Garth made their way into two cult classic films starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey. Everyone's favorite cable access show get honored in LEGO form in this set. If you build it, they will come.
David S. Pumpkins: The celebrity hosts of Saturday Night Live were always legends in their own right, but when coming on the show, they very gave birth to their own legendary characters. Tom Hanks is a great example with David S. Pumpkins. A Halloween episode sketch that immediately garnered some of the most YouTube views in SNL history and became a recurring character whenever Tom was on the show. And those skeletons? Bobby Moynihan and Mikey Day made those just as iconic. ANY QUESTIONS?
Target Lady: Last but not least, we wanted to show love to some of the amazing female characters created on SNL and Kristen Wiig's Target Lady immediately stood out in our minds. Not only was she a fan favorite recurring sketch on the show, but she was so popular that she went on to star in actual Target TV spots for Target. IT'S A 50! AND IT'S LEGIT!
We can't wait to show you some of the additions to the set, but the playability is endless and it gives the builder the ability to create their own favorite sketches from the last 50 years.
