This creation represents my attempt to recreate a small portion of perhaps the best historic railroad operating today.   The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gage Railroad preserves and operates immaculate 100 year old equipment on track that winds through some of the most beautiful scenery the Rocky Mountains have to offer.

This potential set is a K-36 locomotive, built in 1925, with the somewhat unique characteristic of having its wheels placed inside its frame, as opposed to outside the frame like most locomotives.  This design allowed for a larger and more powerful engine than was typical on the narrow gage tracks running through the Rocky Mountains.  The unusual characteristics of this locomotive give it a unique appearance that sets it apart from many other Lego train sets, and it will be a must have for collectors and train enthusiasts.

I have included images of a passenger car and caboose that could also be part of the set if the added cost is not unreasonable.  Special care was given to the building of the passenger car and caboose.  Several small pieces were stacked on their side to duplicate the look of wooden panels that are visible on actual train cars.  The textured effect of this technique gives the cars a much greater degree of realism that will make this set a display worthy piece.

I have built the engine with a power functions battery, receiver, motor, and lights; and it is fully functional on Lego train track.   To cut down on the cost of the set, the power functions could be removed, and the set could be sold without the passenger car or caboose.   A quick search for any of the previous Creator quality Lego train sets on ebay will show that attractive and detailed trains are highly prized and sought after sets with enormous resale value.   This set would appeal to children and adults, and would look great running around a Christmas tree or any child's own Lego city display.

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gage Railroad is one of the world's finest trains, and it deserves to be immortalized by the world's finest toy.
