Welcome on board!
This is a 1:45 scale model of an Imoca 60 racing yacht built from 1964 Lego parts. The Imoca is a 60-foot (18-meter) long sailboat designed primarily for offshore regattas. With this boat class races are held around the world, which is why these boats are also designed and built for difficult conditions. So much for the boat in general.
Even though the model is mainly a display model, it has some functions like the original:
- Retractable and extendable foilers
- Swing keel
- Movable tiller and oar blades
- Movable sails
The set also provides a stand that not only holds the boat, but also shows a detailed underwater world. The whole thing is rounded off by a realistic mast with three stems (for the foresails), a deck structure and a railing.
It wasn't easy to build the round shape of the ship's hull, but it turned out to be a very sturdy and detailed model nonetheless.
Because I'm a sailor myself, a fan of this boat and of course a big fan of LEGO bricks, I built this model. It was a long way from the first idea to the finished model, but when I see how the model works and looks, I am very happy with the result.
I think that the model will not only please many other LEGO fans, but will also be well received by many water sports enthusiasts of all ages, as it not only looks good, but also has some of the functions of the original.
I would be very happy if you would support this project and tell your friends and family about it.
If you have any questions about the model, please ask them in the comments.
