This is a 30th anniversary tribute build to Disney's Batteries not included from 1987 at 1755 total pieces.
I watched this film one holiday season with both my late grandmothers, who both passed away at ages 81 and 82, both from alzheimers. And they both loved that film and the lead actress Jessica Tandy who's character in the film also had alzheimers. Over 30 years later I thought back on this while recently revisiting the film and thought what an odd omen of sorts, or ironic twist of fate as it turned out to be in time. And now all remains is childhood memories, so I decided to build this set.
The film in question's main two characters was Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn who were married in the film and in the real world. They in fact were married in 1942 and together for 52 years up until her passing in 1994. Hume joined her in 2003. They would star in one more film after this together in Cocoon the return in 1988, and again Jessica Tandy passed away 6 years later in 1994.
The film was about a group of tenants in an apartment block who are all being forced to move out so that it can be demolished. The tenants are reluctant to move, so the developers hire a local gang to 'persuade' them to leave. Fortunately, visiting alien mechanical life-forms come to town. When they befriend the tenants, the aliens use their extraterrestrial abilities to defeat the developers.
Jessica Tandy's character struggles throughout the film coming to terms with the fact that her son Bobby had passed away, and she clings to one of the thugs sent to force them out, as she thinks he is her son Bobby. He has some good in his heart and never really lets her in on the fact that he is not her son, even though he is one of the bad guys of the story. The tenants all believe the robots have come to help them save their homes.
The five robots in question are the mother, father, and their three children, which are all created with house hold appliances. Each of the mother or father ships, is like and entire mechanical world on a micro scale. The concept of life will find a way, via organic or mechanical is at the heart I think of the message of this great story.
Each robot has a hinged flip up plug in the rear for plugging into any household electrical outlet so as to recharge, as again the Batteries are not included.
Robots are as follows.
1. Father robot images 2 and 3.
2. Mother robot images 4 and 5.
3. Brown child robot images 6 and 7.
4. Blue child robot images 8 and 9.
5. Golden child robot images 10 and 11.
Thanks for the view and or support and have a great holiday season!
