The Orangutan's Island

The pongo, or orang-utan, is a genus of primates belonging to the family of hominids. Its narrowed range is in Insulinde, particularly in the islands of Borneo and Sumatra.

Orangutans are among the most arboreal of great apes. They spend most of their time in the trees in search of food. The animal feeds mainly on fruits, young shoots, small vertigo, bird eggs and insects.

The average size of orangs is 1.10 to 1.4 m for 40 to 80 kg. They can live 30 to 40 years in the wild.

For my project, I decided to build the orangutan in Lego, in their natural environment.

I built 3 different monkeys: each of them is in a different position. These are positions that orangutans like a lot. They can all move their arms and their heads.

The first can move in the trees.

The second eats bananas.

The third can move on the ground.

I built the island to represent the natural environment of these great apes. The banana trees, the young shoots and the giant tree representing the main vegetation of the jungle.
