Republic Attack Cruiser, Venator-Class
Throughout the Clone Wars, the Grand Army of the Republic extensively used these large vessels in the fight against the Separatists. They were built by Kuat Drive Yards and had a multi-purpose role, as fighter carriers and as battleships. They are the first thing you see in Episode III, and are a common sight in the 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' animated series.
As far as I understand, it is built with only 'legal' LEGO techniques.
It also has a fairly sturdy build, includes a claw in the bottom hangar bay, and can be converted into a Jedi flagship, simply by changing the tiles on the top of the bridge towers to red instead of grey.
Here is the url to the set on my Flickr page, with a little background of the model and more pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/69026266@N02/sets/72157630077654530/
I am not sure what it might cost, but considering the size, and because it isn't hollow, I'd say that it could cost $30 maximum, but I can't be sure. I would think that this particular model would cost anywhere from 20$-25$.
Midi-scale can be perfect for those who want to have a smaller set, but still want the accuracy that can be sacrificed in mini-scale. It is very useful for role-playing large scale space battles, but also for display. How great would it be to have small, but accurate, models of the large capital ships of the Star Wars universe on your desk or shelf? It'd look great without taking up a lot of space.
If you would like to see this set in your hands or on your shelf, please support, and spread the word! :)
Any suggestions on presentation would be appreciated; we want as many as possible to like and support this thing.
I also had one other idea. Perhaps, if LEGO won't allow a continuation of the midi-scale line, this could be part of a new line of sets. It would include models that are roughly the size and quality of this one that would have a small stand and a modest information tile for display purposes.
Basically, it'd be a cross between midi-scale and 'Buildable Galaxy' lines, or a halfway mark between the 'Buildable Galaxy' and 'Ultimate Collector's Series' lines.
The new line would cover any and all spacecraft larger than fighters and small shuttles viz., battleships, dreadnaughts, cruisers, frigates, transports, and corvetts. They could come from any organization, such as the Rebel Alliance, the Galactic Empire, the Republic, the Separatist Alliance, the Old Republic, the Sith Empire, and others, both in official Star Wars media, and in the Expanded Universe.
Please see the last photo to get a better idea of what it might look like, keeping in mind that they would have a small information tile along with their stands.
If you have read this far and like the second idea, please say so. If there are at least twenty who do, I will create a separate project for it. Also, please tell me if you have any ideas for what the new line of sets could be called.
Please note: Feel free to say what you'd like and give ideas for both concepts, but I'm not personally building any more models besides the two shown here :). I think I'll do a seperate project for the Executor later.
Update 6/17/13: I completed a project for my Executor about two weeks ago.
Here's a close up the two bridge towers, showing the tri-sloped structure, as well as the turbolasers.
The side hangar, along with the turbolasers at the top. There are only six sloping parts that use either/both hinge bricks and clips. Four of them are represented here, the sections with the 45-degree wing plates, two on this side of the ship, two on the other side. The last two sloped parts are the central stripes on the front half of the ship, both top and bottom. With the tiered idea, and these few sloped parts, the effect of the sloping hull is produced, but with a very sturdy structure.
The engines of the ship with details on the rear of the bridge structure. In my opinion, this is one of the more distinguished views of the ship. It is also my favorite view, with a fly-off-into-the-distance, or fly-into-battle feel.
This photo is to help visualize the midi-scale replacement concept. If you don't know what that is, please refer to the last couple of paragraphs in the main description.
The super star destroyer is also my own. Here, the Venator has been converted to the 'Resolute,' Anakin Skywalker's flagship during the Clone Wars, through the red color on the top of the bridge towers.
