This very sturdy, mechanically functional model was created using constraining methods and a small number of simple pieces. The design harkens to the days “Technic”—first called the Expert Builder series—was introduced. It purposely does not use many smooth pieces, or “stud-not-on-top” techniques to hide the fact it is made of LEGO. The model demonstrates several mechanical engineering principles. The obvious one is the gear ratio between the primary and secondary rotors. A less obvious one, is that of constraining degrees of freedom. This method is ubiquitous in professional LEGO sets, but not explained. It is purposely demonstrated in this model, however.
