Hi! I love the Lego City and Creator themes, but in recent years we mostly got detached houses, and I felt that I missed a typical city condominium. So, inspired by the many great City and Creator buildings, I tried and built my own City-style condominium.
It is a three-story building. The first floor is leased by a bakery chain, and they sell their delicious bread, pretzels, and cakes there. You can also have a cup of coffee, which you can enjoy either standing at one of the bar tables inside or sitting together outside. If you want to get to the apartments, you can enter the staircase through the door on the left. There are also mailboxes of the people residing there. The stairs will take you to the apartments, which have identical ground plans, but of course, each individual has his or her own style when it comes to furnishing. Each apartment has a balcony, and I guess that is the reason why so many Legolanders want to stay in this condominium. When you follow the stairs up to the roof, you can enjoy a sunny day up there with a great view on Lego city.
Having created a little feel for the building, I will now explicate some details of my building process. I created the condominium with the Lego Digital Designer 4.3.8. The whole building including mini figures and accessories uses a total of 733 bricks. The staircase and the balconies were quite challenging to build because everything should be connected and stable, and the mini figures should get enough space to walk and open doors. In the end, I think it turned out quite nicely. I decided to leave the back open. This may not look very natural, but in my opinion this adds to the play value. I understand this condominium as a play set for use in the Lego City theme, so it uses some happy colors, and it does not contain as many details as the modular buildings.
This is my very first contribution to the Lego Ideas, so it may be far from perfect. I hope you still like what I did, and I welcome your comments and suggestions. By the way: Originally, I wanted to add another floor, but I kind of felt like it would get too huge then, and I thought you can just imagine that it has some more levels. If you think I should add more levels, let me know in the comments!
