For the Record
As a fan of vintage technology, I firmly believe that there is nothing quite like the crisp sound of a vinyl record. This model is a life-sized replica of a standard 3-speed record player, with a simulated switch to select 33, 45 or 78 RPM records. There is also a power dial which can turn between 0 (off) and 1 (on). Of course, the turntable spins, and the movable needle has vertical and horizontal articulation, allowing it to be displayed in any pose. At the back, an AC input is simulated as well as red and yellow loudspeaker outputs.
However, this model holds a surprise which can attract collectors both young and old. Lifting off the roof and opening the front reveals a retro rock-and-roll café, with tables, chairs, a live band, a jukebox, a dance-floor and even a 1950s motorcycle on display, as well as an ensemble of era-appropriate minifigures. The owner of this 2433-piece model can choose whether to display the outside or the inside - both capture the zany culture of early music.
