ABOUT YOURSELF
What is your name?
HunshuiMOYU.
Where are you from?
Guangzhou, China.
Have you created any LEGO MOCs (my own creations) that you’re particularly proud of? What is it, why are you proud of it and do you have a photo of it?
“The Dream – Picasso”. I really love this piece of mine. I'm very satisfied with its design and colors. It perfectly captures the essence of Picasso's famous painting.
“A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains”
This is a famous traditional Chinese painting, depicting the magnificent mountains and rivers of China. I recreated it in the form of a scroll, bringing the scenery vividly to life.
How and when did your interest in LEGO products come about?
My interest in LEGO products began five years ago, when my sister gave me my first LEGO set. Two years ago, I started designing my own LEGO creations.
What does the LEGO hobby mean to you?
Designing MOCs has boosted my confidence in my design skills. I've received lots of love and praise from friends. Building LEGO sets in my daily life also helps me relax and stay away from electronic devices, allowing me to appreciate the beauty of the real world more.
What is your favorite LEGO theme (current or past)? Why? And has any theme inspired your building style or preference in any particular way?
Harry Potter, amusement park, and Monkie Kid. I also really love “Starry Night” (21333), which inspired me to design “The Dream” and “Impression Sunrise”.
What is your favorite official LEGO set ever? Why?
I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter, and in my opinion Hogwarts Castle (71043) is the best set of the whole HP series.
ABOUT YOUR PROJECT
Where did your interest in this particular model come from?
The "Starry Night" (21333) set, which I found to be perfect. I really enjoyed creating sequels for it.
How long did the process of making the project take and what did you have to research? What kind of prep, research and design phases did you go through to produce your creation?
It took about three days to make this MOC. I just referred to the picture of “Impression Sunrise” and built it in design software, experimenting with different LEGO elements and colors to capture the essence of the original painting.
What special challenges did you face creating the model?
Most of this painting is taken up by the water surface, which was the hardest part to design. It was tricky to capture the shimmering effect of the waves with LEGO pieces. I tried many different approaches and ended up using multiple layers of wedge plates to recreate the reflection of sunlight on the water.
How long did it take to complete the model and for your Product Idea to reach 10,000 supporters?
I spent about 10 days brainstorming, thinking about the overall technical structure, types of parts, and color choices. The actual building phase took around three days, completing the final design in the software.
How did it feel when you reached the magic 10,000 votes?
I felt amazing, because I've only been into LEGO design for a short two years. It took about half a year to reach 10K votes.
Approximately how many LEGO bricks did you use to create your model?
I used approximately 1,500 pieces.
What is your favourite building technique or part/section that you’ve incorporated into your Product Idea?
Multiple layers of wedge plates. This technology forms several small parallelograms, recreating the reflection of sunlight on the water.
ABOUT LEGO IDEAS
Do you have any useful advice about creating a successful LEGO Ideas Product Idea?
Success comes from 1% creativity and 99% persistence. When you have a good idea, don't hesitate. No matter how much experience you have with LEGO bricks, be bold and give it a try.
What is your favorite LEGO Ideas Product Idea (besides your own of course)? Are there any Product Ideas you think have been overlooked?
It's a real shame that the Narnia IP isn't getting much attention. I've seen several Narnia product Ideas, but unfortunately none of them have been approved so far.
What is it about the platform that attracts you? What tips would you give to anyone who is thinking about uploading an idea?
The platform attracts me because it allows creators to showcase their Ideas to a global audience and receive feedback from the community. My tip for anyone thinking about uploading an Idea is to engage with the community, listen to feedback and continually improve your designs.
Do you have plans to submit any other Product Ideas in the future? If yes, can you give us a hint what that might be?
Maybe another recreation of a world-famous painting.
