Step back in time with this medieval LEGO model and get buzzy building a bee farm by J.K.Brick! Their MEDIEVAL BEE FARM can be seen in full here, but why not find out more about the design and the creator behind it, here.

ABOUT YOURSELF

  1. Who are you?
    Kovács Jakab.

  2. Where are you from?
    I’m from Hungary.

  3. What do you study or do for a living?
I’m studying advanced math and physics, and I sell my own MOC instructions.

  4. What hobbies do you have?
I really like to draw, especially if I can work on my medieval-styled fictive world. I also play a lot of sports, especially volleyball and soccer.

  5. Do you have a personal LEGO portfolio website that you can share with us?
I have an Instagram profile, @j.k._brick.

  6. Have you created any LEGO MOCs (my own creations) that you’re particularly proud of? What is it, why are you proud of it and do you have a photo of it?
I built a Medieval Town Centre MOC. I like the medieval theme, especially if I can make something unique. It’s always a pleasure to build something new and consider the shapes and building techniques.

  7. How and when did your interest in LEGO products come about?
I've loved LEGO for as long as I can remember. At first, like all children, I felt that LEGO City was my own! As I got older, more complicated sets appeared in my life, and then I began building LEGO MOCs.

  8. What does the LEGO hobby mean to you? How does it fit into your life? E.g. build, display, meetups, play the games or 'just' watch the cartoons.
I feel something special while I’m building with LEGO: freedom. I can build whatever I want, and it’s a mesmerizing feeling.

  9. What is your favorite LEGO theme (current or past)? Why? And has any theme inspired your building style or preference in any particular way?
I really like the Medieval-style Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit sets. Now I’m building a Medieval Kingdom MOC, including the Lion Knights’ Castle, and I want to build a custom village next to the castle.

  10. What is your favorite official LEGO set ever? Why?
The Lion Knights’ Castle. It’s a really detailed castle and I’m pleased with the unique building techniques in this set. Furthermore, I have loved the building experience.

  11. What is your favorite LEGO element? Why?
I really like the LEGO animals, and my favorite is the goat. It is really cute, and you can use it almost anywhere.

  12. Is there a LEGO designer (official LEGO designer or fan designer) who you are inspired by and look up to? Who and why?
jayfa_mocs. I really like his animal buildings, they are unique and beautiful.

  13. Is there one or more particular LEGO websites (not official LEGO websites) that you visit often and/or are inspired by?
Rebrickable, because a lot of people, including myself, upload building instructions for MOCs. This way, you can learn a lot about the structure of LEGO MOCs, and you can get inspiration from other designers.

ABOUT YOUR PROJECT

  1. Where did your interest in this particular model come from?
I like the medieval theme, and I wanted to make something different. I thought maybe I could make a farm, but not a regular farm… A bee farm! Where you can collect honey and live in peace with bees.

  2. How long did the process of making the project take and what did you have to research? What kind of prep, research and design phases did you go through to produce your creation?
I started looking at medieval-style farmhouses to get inspiration. I drew some sketches of the model and then started the building process. After that I made renders and edited them before uploading the final images.

  3. What special challenges or frustrations did you face creating the model? What was the most difficult part to recreate?
The most difficult bit was the roof. I wanted it to be curved, and I wanted to use interesting parts, so I went with cleaver pieces.

  4. If you could talk to yourself before you started on this project, what would you tell him/her? What do you know now that you wish you knew then?
I would tell myself to rework the hives in the model.

  5. How long did it take to complete the model? Did you finish it fairly quickly, or did it take a long time? And how did the build time compare to the time you spent promoting your Product Idea to reach 10,000 supporters?
I finished within approximately three weeks. I spent way more time promoting my model on my Instagram page.

  6. How did it feel when you reached the magic 10,000 votes and how long did it take?
It was an amazing feeling! It took me a year to reach the magic number.

  7. Approximately how many LEGO bricks did you use to create your model?
    Approximately 3,000 pieces.

  8. What is your favorite building technique or part/section that you’ve incorporated into your Product Idea?
My favorite part is the roof and the stonework under the main building. I used gray suitcases, to give an interesting look to the stonework.

  9. If you built your model digitally, what software did you use to build and render your model?
    I used Bricklink Studio

ABOUT LEGO IDEAS

  1. Do you have any useful advice about creating a successful LEGO Ideas Product Idea?
It’s really important to make something new, because you can get a bigger supporter base if your build is original. Furthermore, if you like your Idea and have fun with it, it will be a great experience and you can develop your creativity, problem-solving abilities, etc.

  2. What (if any) methods did you use to advertise and attract support to your Product Idea?
I shared my project on my Instagram page.

  3. What is your favorite LEGO Ideas Product Idea (besides your own of course)? Are there any Product Ideas you think have been overlooked?
The Tetris Solid Idea by @victorvey300. It’s a really fun and creative build. I was just blown away when I first saw it.

  4. What is it about the platform that attracts you? What tips would you give to anyone who is thinking about uploading an idea?
I started my profile two years ago. LEGO Ideas gave me the opportunity to develop a lot. The challenges and the fact that your model could become a real LEGO set through Ideas helped me a lot. You should start it, because it’s worth it!

  5. Do you have plans to submit any other Product Ideas in the future? If yes, can you give us a hint what that might be?
Yes, I want to submit more Ideas.
